Gizzeria On Line is a local news site for Gizzeria, a small town in the province of Catanzaro, Calabria. It covers news, history, culture and events. The town needed a place where local stories, photos and sports results could be published quickly and found again later.
What I built
A local news site that started on custom code and moved to WordPress as it grew.
- Custom news system: the first version stored stories in its own MySQL table, with headline, subtitle, author, photos, video and a flag for special reports. A feed page listed the latest 30 stories.
- WordPress newspaper: the site later moved to WordPress with a newspaper theme, related posts under each article and categories without the “category” prefix in the URL.
- Local football tables: LeagueManager for fixtures, results and standings of local teams.
- Events calendar: an events calendar for town festivals and appointments.
- Facebook and search: Facebook comments, fan box and members widget, Yoast SEO and an XML sitemap.

PHP and MySQL for the first version, then WordPress with a commercial newspaper theme, LeagueManager, Event Calendar, Yet Another Related Posts, Contact Form 7, Yoast SEO and Google XML Sitemaps.
