The client
Moked is the online portal of Italian Judaism, home of the news magazine Pagine Ebraiche. It runs alongside the national Union of Italian Jewish Communities, whose old address on the portal redirects to ucei.it. The portal had to publish news and in-depth pieces for a national community, with several sections and editorial spaces under one roof.
What I built
A WordPress network with its own theme, in the early days of WordPress multisite.
- Multisite network: the portal ran on WordPress MU, so separate editorial sites could live under one installation with shared users.
- Custom theme: the “Moked – azure” theme with a homepage made of widget areas (two content columns and two sidebars), so editors could rearrange the front page without code.
- Category archive page: a template that lists every article in a category on one page, useful for readers going through a whole topic.
- Print stylesheet: a dedicated print style so articles print cleanly.
- Maintenance switch: redirect rules that send readers to an update page during technical work, while the office’s own address still reaches the site.
Built with
WordPress MU (multisite), a custom PHP theme, Apache rewrite rules and the Cimy User Extra Fields plugin for extra fields at registration.
