I am a freelance WordPress developer: for over twenty years I have been designing and building sites for professionals, businesses and public bodies, and I work with WordPress every day, from the simple brochure site to the platform with a private area. Working with a freelancer means always talking to the person who writes the code: no hand-offs and no requests bouncing from one office to another.
What I do as a freelance WordPress developer
- Custom themes, light and fast, written for your site instead of adapting a ready-made theme full of features you will never use. The site you are looking at runs on a theme written from scratch.
- Custom plugins when you need a feature that does not exist. PDC Assistant, the service my clients use to ask for changes even from WhatsApp, is a WordPress plugin I developed myself.
- Online shops with WooCommerce: catalogue, payments, shipping and order management.
- Multilingual sites with Polylang: this site is in nine languages, each with its own texts and its own search ranking.
- Speed, security and SEO: caching, light images, structured data, carefully written titles and descriptions with Yoast.
- Redesigns, migrations and sites to put back on their feet: slow sites, sites broken after an update or left untouched for years.
- Integrations with payments, management software, newsletters and artificial intelligence.
How I work
- Analysis. I start from who will use the site and what it has to achieve: enquiries, sales, bookings, information.
- Test environment. I work on a copy of the site: you see the changes before they go live, with no risk to the real site.
- Development. Structure, design, content and features, with clean, documented code.
- Handover. I show you how to update everything yourself and stay available for what comes next.
Maintenance and updates
A WordPress site needs to be kept up to date: WordPress, plugins and themes receive security fixes all the time. Before every update I save a copy of the database, afterwards I check that the site responds, and if something is wrong I go back to the previous version. With the PDC Assistant subscription you ask for a change whenever you need it, even with a WhatsApp voice message, and get the answer when the work is done.
Why a freelance WordPress developer and not an agency
You have a single point of contact, who knows your site from the start and always knows where the work stands. Decisions are quick and small changes do not turn into long projects. And if your project also needs graphics, video or copy, I take care of them or coordinate them.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work on WordPress sites built by others?
Yes. I start by checking the site: theme, plugins, updates, speed and security. Then I tell you what is worth fixing now and what can wait.
Do you use page builders like Elementor?
If your site is already built with a page builder I maintain and improve it. For new sites I suggest whatever is simplest for you to manage, which is often a custom theme.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. I am based in Italy and work with clients in Italy and abroad: we talk on the phone, on a video call or on WhatsApp, and you see the changes in the test environment.
If you need a WordPress developer, freelance and hands-on, for a new site or to fix the one you have, tell me about the project: I will reply with a first idea of the way forward.
