The client
SIPPE, the Sindacato Polizia Penitenziaria, is a trade union for prison officers, based in Rome and affiliated to SINAPPE. Its old Joomla site held a large archive of news and documents, and the union needed a modern site its staff could keep up to date on their own.
What I built
I moved the site to WordPress with a custom theme and brought the archive across.
- Full migration — 319 articles imported from Joomla, with their images.
- A home page built around news — latest news, national statements and news from local branches in separate blocks, plus quick links to membership, forms, documents and contacts.
- Documents and images handled for the editors — the theme finds the PDF linked in an article, and when a post has no featured image it uses the first image in the text.
- Accessibility controls — visitors can enlarge the text or switch to high contrast, and the choice is applied before the page is drawn, so nothing flickers.
- Editable without code — headline, buttons, quick links and contact details are all set from the WordPress Customizer.
Built with
WordPress with a custom theme written from scratch, a deploy script that bumps the theme version on every release, a test environment and production hosting on Hetzner.
