The client
Jeff Arak is a video journalist and documentary maker. He needed a portfolio for his projects in English and Spanish, and he needed it live by a fixed date: the weekend of a festival he was part of, when he expected a wave of visitors. He also wanted to update it himself afterwards.
What I built
I built a bilingual portfolio on a small content management system I wrote for him in PHP and MySQL, planned around that deadline.
- English and Spanish: every page has its Spanish version (About and Acerca de, Press and Prensa, Projects and Proyectos, Blog), with a flag switch on desktop and mobile.
- A page for each documentary: Harlem Arts Festival, Life on Death Beach, Mexico Lindo, Paving the Way, Of Words and Touch and Dance, LSM Dictionary and Those with Voices.
- His own admin panel: a password-protected dashboard to edit pages, blog posts, projects, links, homepage slides, the media library and general settings.
- Full-screen home: large images that stretch to any screen, fed from the admin panel.
- Blog, press and sharing: posts in both languages, a press page, links to Vimeo, Twitter and Facebook, and share buttons on projects.
Built with
PHP, MySQL, jQuery with Backstretch, hand-written CSS and web fonts, Google Analytics.
